At yesterday's meeting we talked about the idea of a "donate to play" type carnival game to have at the october maker faire (and other events?). It seems like we were pretty excited about a rubber duck launching game. I'd like to gague other people's interest in making this thing. I'm thinking it'd be easiest to use my shop and that we could meet outside of normal meeting times. Your thoughts please!

Yeah, we could have pre built parts, and people have to combine them.

I really like the idea of having people build their own launchers but, it feels like it might be pretty hard to implement.

There are only a few different flavors of launcher I can think of, but they all have radically differerent required pieces

I could maybe see a LEGO car race down a slope working, but I think that a full drivetrain is a bit too complicated

Yes.

Alex asked me to do some sketches regarding the options for booth games for the maker faire and subsequent outreach events. The idea being you all would have a better idea of what the options entail. I’ve added some notes to the sketches with some questions, thoughts, and opinions.

@everyone Here are the questions that we came up with, let me know if you have any other questions for him. What kind of engineer were you? What types of projects did you work on? What types of skills do engineers need to be successful? Where do engineers fit in the workflow of a project? How do you break down a project? How do you know when to stop brainstorming and start prototyping/building? How do you decide if a solution is too simple or too complicated? When should you over engineer something? (beef up or make it extra strong) - Is there a better way to ask this question?

Besides the font, everything looks ok. A few thoughts:

The optional questions shouldn't be asked, we have better things we can do during that time.

The things about cycles are too ambiguous.

You will need Spike Prime Sets (https://education.lego.com/en-us/products/lego-education-spike-prime-set/45678/) . They contain the robot and some Lego technic parts to help build a robot. You will likely need more than one of these and may need many depending on the size of the group. Additionally you likely want to have additional Lego Technics parts such as frames, connectors and beams. We can help you in this area as we have many parts. We do have a Lego EV3 which is the older robot but could get you started learning with.

Fairly big news for outreach team, I'm working at Pvca's summer camp for the week in the robotics room with a guy from Cosmic Loop, where we've been doing Fll styled daily robotics challenges. The news is starting in august Pvca is starting a Ftc and Fll team, Cosmic Loop has also been trying to start teams up there too. I think Cosmic Loop is helping them out or atleast the guy is, I plan on doing the same if anyone else is interested let me know. I dont know when it'll be or if even we can nor anymore information at the moment, but I have the person I'm working with's number, aswell as some of the teachers and I know who the coach is or atleast who they offered it to, so just something to think about.
